Sir Bradley Wiggins & Andy Jeffery Speak Up For Survivors Of Child Sex Abuse
Andy Jeffery joined five-time Olympic gold medallist and 2012 Tour de France champion, Sir Bradley Wiggins, at the launch of NSPCC’s Listen Up Speak Up campaign in London.
NSPCC’s Listen Up Speak Up campaign - an initiative to teach a million people to spot the signs of child abuse, encourages people to learn the signs of child abuse and the best way to respond.
Sir Bradley revealed to Matt and guests, that he suffered sexual abuse between 13 and 16 years of age.
Listen Up, Speak Up isn’t about creating vigilantes, says Wiggins, …it’s about asking others to overcome their own hesitancy to speak up and get involved…it’s OK to approach victims of abuse and speak to them.”
Andy Jeffery (aka Matt Carey), author of A Small Boy Smiling, an account of his own experience as a survivor of Child Sexual Abuse, said…”I carried my secret for forty plus years, it nearly killed me….going public set me free”
The NSPCC helpline recorded a 14% increase in reports of in-person sexual abuse concerns in 2022, with over 8,000 adults calling in.
More than 27,000 other calls were taken about neglect and physical and emotional abuse of children.
