The Child Sexual Abuse Practice Leads Programme

An intensive training and development programme to create ‘CSA Practice Leads’ and support organisations to build their understanding and confidence in identifying and responding to CSA.

Earlier this year I was so pleased to be approached by the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse to review an important report called ‘Piloting the CSA Practice Leads Programme in adult substance misuse services’.

As both a survivor of CSA and a recovering alcoholic this report and its far-reaching recommendations are very close to my heart.

Improving the professional response to child sexual abuse across all agencies and services is essential both in terms of reducing the long term impact of sexual abuse on individuals and their families, but also on society as a whole.

The pilot programme to develop 'CSA Practice Leads' among professionals in adult substance misuse services was developed in conjunction with Change Grow Live (CGL) – a large, national charity which primarily supports adults with drug and/or alcohol dependency support needs.

The CSA Centre has also just published ‘Piloting the CSA Practice Leads Programme in social work’.

The Centre of Excellence on Child Sexual Abuse is a multi-disciplinary team, funded by the Home Office, hosted by Barnardo’s and works closely with key partners from academic institutions, local authorities, health, education, police and the voluntary sector.
